Voluntary Action Hinckley & Bosworth
"The Community Hub"

Welcome to Voluntary Action Hinckley & Bosworth the Community Hub.

The Community Hub continues in its aim to provide a range of services to meet the needs of the local community. Working positively with individuals and organisations; developing stronger, empowered communities is at the heart of what we do.

With offices at Waterloo Road in Hinckley and at the Earl Shilton Community House, VAHB, The Community Hub, is the home of the Neighbourhood Management and Stronger Communities Team and Carers Development Project workers. We continue to provide leadership in partnership and representation work to ensure that the voice of the community and voluntary organisations is heard by local statutory agencies and also ensure that individuals and volunteers are signposted to the help that is available. With other key local partners, we organise the annual Christmas Appeal to provide toy and food parcels for those in need in the Hinckley & Bosworth area. We are also a reporting centre for Hate Incidents where people can come to report any incidents where they feel they have been targeted due to their age, disability, gender, race, religion/ belief or sexual orientation.

The Neighbourhood Management & Stronger Communities Team is working in six specific areas within Barwell, Earl Shilton, Bagworth & Thornton, Burbage and Hinckley which are known as priority neighbourhoods. The team supports local people and groups to become more involved in improving their area – highlighting and working on the issues that they say are important to them. From this, action plans are made, developed to bring together the needs of the community and the key issues for the area. The action plans turn ideas and words into actions and reality.

Our Carers Project identifies and supports informal carers in the Hinckley & Bosworth area. If you are looking after anyone of any age on a daily basis then you are a carer. You may help someone to wash and dress themselves, give medicines, provide emotional support or generally help someone else get on with their daily life. The Carers’ project workers are here to support you and give information and advice on all aspects of caring.

We actively encourage local volunteering, hosting Voluntary Action LeicesterShire’s (VAL) access point and drop-in sessions. If you are interested in volunteering you can make an appointment to see VAL’s District Volunteer Advisor here at our Waterloo Road Offices or come along to the drop-in on a Tuesday or Thursday morning between 10 am and 1 pm. We also host workers from the V-Involved Team (Leicestershire and Rutland) who promote volunteering especially for young people aged 16-25 years of age. The V-Involved programme can lead to a recognised, accredited award.

In addition, the Community Hub is host to Hinckley & District Association for the Disabled which provides information and organises events and outings for its members. It also provides a wheelchair hire service which is also available to non-members.

Meeting room facilities are available at our Waterloo Road Offices for community groups and other organisations.
