Below are some of the local opportunities we are promoting:

Are you interested in supporting others with their literacy and writing skills? Do you consider yourself to be patient, non judgemental and have an understanding manner? Are you looking to volunteer for a day a week?

Day Class Support Volunteers are needed to help a tutor to support adults from the travelling community with literacy and writing skills this includes listening to people read, helping to fill in forms such as passport, preparing for driving theory, helping to reply to letters.
Activities such as computer, cooking, traditional crafts, joint family learning activities, photography can also be included. This can either be at the Widening Participation Project base or in the outreach van at various locations.
Volunteers are needed from 9am-3pm Mon-Fri during term time. Day to suit volunteer.
This opportunity is based in Desford.

Opportunity Filled

Do you have administration and reception skills you want to make good use of? Can you remain calm under pressure? Do you enjoy meeting a variety of people?

The Citizens Advice Bureau are looking for a Volunteer Receptionist.
The role includes; answering the telephone, keeping the reception orderly, keeping clients informed of waiting times, informing advisers that clients are waiting and helping clients to access self-help information from a display of leaflets.

Do you enjoy the company of others? Are you good at talking and listening? Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference to an individual?

The Alzheimers Society need Side by Side Befrienders to support younger people (under 65yrs) in the early stages of dementia, who are living at home, to keep links with their local community. Volunteers will be matched with people sharing similar interests. The role may involve going out for a walk together, shopping, visiting places of interest, attending sporting events, going to concerts, or sitting and chatting playing cards.
2- 4 hours a week, depending on the activities undertaken, for several months is asked for.
This opportunity includes the Hinckley and Bosworth area.

Would you like to become part of a team of volunteers who support local people with learning disabilities to have a safe place to meet and socialise with their friends?
If you are patient, friendly, have good communication skills, a sense of humour and are physically fit this could be the opportunity for you!
Volunteer Minibus escorts are needed to assist the Driver in helping Gateway Club Members have an enjoyable, safe journey from the Mencap Centre to their homes.
Volunteers are needed on alternate Mondays from 9.30 for approx 1.5hrs, alternate Thursdays from 8.30pm for approx 2 hours.

This opportunity is based in Hinckley.

Are you energetic, enthusiastic and creative? Do you have good organisational skills? Are you keen to contribute to children/young people having positive experiences which enhance their lives and interests?
Do you enjoy the challenge of motivating children/young people in a group setting?

1st Britannia Scout Group urgently need Leaders of scouting sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers) to organise, plan and run weekly events, providing a balanced programme over the scouting year.
Leaders are part of a team which include Assistant Leaders and parents in ensuring activities are fun and safe.
You do not need to have experience of scouting or guiding, anyone over 18 is welcome as long as you have a belief and support with the principles and values of the scouting movement. A great team of trainers and advisors are on hand to support new Leaders.

A minimum of few hours a week is asked for to plan, organise and deliver a weekly 1-1.5hr session (during term time).
This opportunity is based in Burbage.

Are you physically fit? Are you looking to for some structure to your day?

Worklink are looking for Volunteer Van Crew to help the driver in the delivery and collection of furniture.
A commitment of a half to one day a week for a minimum of 3 months is asked for. Deliveries are between 10am-3pm.
Volunteers wanting short term or work experience placements are welcome.

Do you enjoy driving larger vehicles? Are you physically fit and over 25yrs? Are you looking to get back into a routine?
Worklink are looking for Volunteer Van Drivers to help in the delivery and collection of furniture.
Volunteers are asked to commit to one day per week for a minimum of 3 months. Deliveries are between 10am-3pm.
This opportunity is based in Hinckley and covers the outlying villages.

Do you enjoy helping others and being a part a team? Would you like to increase your confidence and skills while helping a trainer deliver an employment programme?

Choice Support is looking for Volunteer Classroom Mentors to support an adult with a learning disability in a structured programme.
Skills and qualities needed are a desire to support others and an understanding of written and spoken English.

Volunteers are needed 9am -12pm and/ or 1pm – 3pm on Tuesdays.
This opportunity is in Hinckley.

Are you one of the rare people who enjoy washing up? Do you get a great deal of satisfaction from seeing a clean kitchen? Are salads your thing? Do you want to be part of a friendly team?
The Senior Citizen Centre need Volunteer Kitchen Assistants to help prepare food-mainly salads, to wash up and clean the kitchen.
Volunteers are needed 11am -1.30pm Tuesdays and/or Fridays.

If you are aware of the health and safety issues in a kitchen, are reliable and able to follow instructions from a cook and want the satisfaction of being part of providing a valuable service to older people then this could the opportunity for you.
This opportunity is in Earl Shilton.

Are you looking to be part of a friendly team? Would you like to help in an office? Would you like to gain a better understanding of the history and culture of the travelling community?

The Widening Participation Project need an Administration Support Volunteer to help with duties such as filing, photocopy a tidying.
Times required is by negotiation with the organisations administration team between 9 - 3pm Monday - Fri term time.

Attitude is more important than qualifications, administration skills would be desirable.
This opportunity is based in Desford.

Are you a qualified complementary therapist? Have you considered volunteering?

Coping with Cancer are looking for Volunteer Complementary Therapists.
To offer support to cancer patients, carers or family members at St Francis Community Centre, Tudor Road, Hinckley from 1.30 - 4 pm on alternate Tuesdays. Therapies would include Aromatherapy, Crystal Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reiki and Reflexology.
Complementary therapies can also be carried out at clients' home in the Leicestershire and Rutland area.
