Carers Forums

The quarterly Carers Forum provides an informal opportunity for carers to gain new information and to raise issues with professionals who can make a difference. There is also the opportunity to share their experiences with other carers. The Forum normally has one or two short talks on specific subjects together with a number of stands from relevant organisations. Light refreshments are provided.

The Spring Carers' Forum will be held at

St Francis Community Centre, Tudor Road, Hinckley, LE10 0QJ
Tuesday 16th March 2010
Theme – Safety
Speaker – Ron Grantham – Community Safety Unit, commencing 1.15pm

The doors will open at 1.00 p.m. (please do not arrive before then)
The forum will close at 3.00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
The stands will concentrate on organisations that support both carers and the cared for. More details are on the reverse of this page.

SPEAKER:
• COMMUNITY SAFETY UNIT – Contact Ron Grantham on 01455 255 832. The Community Safety Unit has been established since January 2002 to help with the fight against crime and disorder in the borough. Working with the Hinckley and Bosworth Community Safety Partnership the unit is tackling a number of issues that are of concern to the public, including:
• Anti-social behaviour
• High volume crimes (burglaries / vehicle and violent crimes)
• Domestic violence and racially motivated incidents
• Town Centre Crime
• Youth issues
• Specific geographical priorities (as and when the need dictates)

Trading Standards will be on hand at the Carers Forum to give information and advice about ‘Scams’ and being ‘Safe in your Home’, Helen will be available to answer your questions.

Sandra will be there to talk about falls awareness, answer your questions and provide relevant information.

Bogus callers ‘Don’t let them in’
Bogus callers are people who trick their way into people’s homes looking to steal valuables and cash. They are normally well organised and work in teams and are very convincing, often using excuses based on panic to gain entry to your home. Want to know how to prevent this? Then come and ask Leanne.

The ‘First Contact - Leicestershire ‘ Scheme aims to provide this single point of access to a wide range of low level, preventative services provided by statutory and voluntary sector agencies, this is aimed at vulnerable residents of Leicestershire aged 60 and over.
