Shake, Rattle & Roll day - October 2008

The Shake, Rattle & Roll Day on October 12th turned out to be a huge success and a wonderful testament to the teamwork and effort of all those involved at VAH&B.

ShakeRattleRoll

We estimate around 2000 people took part at over 30 different activities with most visitors trying something new and being suitably enthused by it.

A local directory of mental health services was launched by the leader of the County Council, Cllr David Parsons who also took the opportunity to get the main message of the day across – that there is some sort of activity for everyone and that taking part in physical activity is a proven way of supporting mental health.

The Mayor & Mayoress of HBBC were also enthusiastic visitors taking the opportunity to get involved with hula hooping and salsa dancing, to name but a few. We only hope they got to their next venue and activity of bell ringing in time...

AbbasFarid

World Record Holder at Freestyle Football Abbas Farid entertained his many fans with a demonstration of his skills.

Congratulations to 10 year old Casey Greatwood from Westfield Junior School who won the Nintendo Wii Fit in the prize draw.

It would be fair to say that even in our most optimistic dreams we did not imagine such a success as the day turned out to be. The venue was perfect (proving that every cloud does indeed have a silver lining and that the cancellation at the Marstons Stadium proved to be just that cloud and the Leisure Centre a sparkling silver lining), visitors happy and organisers elated – what more could we ask for? Well another day like this according to the feedback reports. We may just need time to recover and recuperate but we are doing evaluation reports on "things we’ll do different next time…" So watch this space!

Huge, enormous thanks to Hinckley Leisure Centre for their never ending support before and during the day, all our very willing volunteers and families, the World Mental Health Day committee, the clubs and activity organisers who so willingly gave up their time and remained committed through cancellations and uncertainties, and to the fantastic staff at Voluntary Action Hinckley and Bosworth who made all of this happen and more!

Volunteer Celebration - June 2008

A great time was had by one and all at our Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday June 4th.

Volunteers Day

Many thanks to all who made it such a success helping us to send out our message of thanks and appreciation to all the Volunteers who live or volunteer in The Hinckley and Bosworth Borough.

The live entertainment from Hastings High School Music Group was superb and thoroughly appreciated. A real treat seeing and hearing such talented young people performing to such a high standard.
