Neighbourhood Action and Stronger Communities Work
Hi, my name is Howard Crane and I would like to introduce you to my colleagues in the Neighbourhood Management and Stronger Communities Team who are based at the Earl Shilton Community House:
Siân Mitchell can offer help and support to community groups, advice on funding for projects and support for community participation and consultation. Rachel Duncan co-ordinates our Neighbourhood Action Teams. We all work for Voluntary Action Hinckley and Bosworth.
The Neighbourhood Action Teams in the prioity areas have representation from all the main agencies including the Police, HBBC, the County Council, the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector as well as representatives from the County, Borough, Parish and Town Councils.
We currently operate in the priority areas in Earl Shilton, Barwell, Bagworth & Thornton and Burbage Lash Hill. We hope people will notice improvements in the services that are provided to them and that in some areas you may have already benefited from the initiatives we have supported:
- Homeowners in some of the priority areas have been offered free loft installation for their homes.
- Neighbourhood Watch and No Cold Calling Zones are being set up throughout the community and in the future Smart Water will be available as another level of protection for your homes.
- Hilltop Radio, your local Internet radio service, has been supported by us and we are now working towards extending the scope of the services.
- Adult Learning Services have worked closely with us to improve the choice and number of courses available in the area.
- Small grants have been given to support gentle exercise for the elderly and people with mobility problems. In addition we have given grants to smoking cessation groups
This just reflects a few of the things that are being provided through the NAT and Stronger Communities.
We are always interested in hearing from the public about issues that affect them or things they would like to do in their community. If you want to contact us please ring (01455) 843240 or come and see us at the Earl Shilton Community House or at VAHB's offices on Waterloo Road.
